A feeling of looseness after a vaginal birth, and what it does to sex, is the problem EMfemme 360 is stated for in the UK. BTL's intended purpose is the treatment of sexual dysfunction after vaginal delivery by improving vaginal laxity. The treatment warms the vaginal tissue with radiofrequency for eight minutes a session, three sessions about a week apart in our practice. It follows a doctor's examination at EMfemme 360 London, 8 Devonshire Place, with the course in writing at a free consultation. In our practice it comes after pelvic floor training, not instead of it.
Pelvic floor first, then EMfemme 360
In our clinical judgment, laxity after childbirth has two parts: the pelvic floor muscles and the tissue of the canal itself. The muscles respond to training, and a 2026 review of laxity treatments says pelvic floor training should come first. Where leaks are part of the picture, the Emsella chair we provide at the same address makes the pelvic floor contract at an intensity you cannot reach voluntarily, and the EMfemme 360 or Emsella page explains. EMfemme 360 is for the tissue: BTL's account is that the controlled heat stimulates collagen production and improves vaginal laxity. In our clinical judgment it suits a woman who has done her training, whose muscles are back, and who still feels the difference.
What the evidence shows, and what it does not
- EMfemme 360 itself: no published study has measured laxity. The one EMfemme 360 study treated postmenopausal women for pain and dryness, and the does it work page sets it out.
- Radiofrequency from other makers: a 2024 trial of 76 women with vaginal atrophy found laxity better than a sham (dummy) treatment at four, six and twelve months. A 2026 analysis found laxity better than sham in three trials, and sexual function modestly better in two. Different devices, same direction.
- The clearances: in the US the applicator is cleared for heating tissue only; the UK stated purpose is the laxity use above.
We say this plainly so you know what the evidence covers: BTL's stated aim is improved vaginal laxity, and it is not a surgical change.
The session and after
Three sessions about a week apart, eight minutes each inside a 30-minute appointment, once the doctor is satisfied the tissue has healed after the birth. A female practitioner can deliver the treatment if you ask. Warmth during, a watery discharge or light spotting for a day or two after, and no intercourse, tampons or baths for 24 to 48 hours in our practice. The review is at six months, and the sessions page sets out the course.
Who it suits
A woman whose tissue has healed after the birth, not breastfeeding, not trying to conceive, with no metal coil, and with her pelvic floor training done. The outside can be treated as well, and the labia page explains; the full guide covers the rest. The sexual function page covers sensation during sex after the birth.
