Leaking with a cough, a sneeze or a run is a pelvic floor problem. The treatment for it at our clinic is Emsella, the chair that contracts the pelvic floor thousands of times in a session, at the same address. EMfemme 360 is a vaginal tissue treatment, and BTL names no bladder or incontinence use for it, and we say so. In our practice the two are often planned together after a vaginal birth, Emsella for the floor and EMfemme 360 for the tissue. The doctor sets the order at EMfemme 360 London, 8 Devonshire Place, with the plan in writing at a free consultation.
What the studies noted
In the EMfemme 360 study of 35 postmenopausal women, 11 who also had mild stress or mixed incontinence reported an improvement, noted in passing rather than measured with a leak test. A 2017 series of 27 women measured leaks with a radiofrequency device that is not confirmed as EMfemme 360. That is incidental evidence, and we quote no leak figure for EMfemme 360. Emsella's evidence for stress incontinence is set out on the EMfemme 360 or Emsella page.
How the two are planned
After a vaginal birth the pelvic floor and the vaginal tissue change together, and in our practice a woman with leaks and laxity is examined for both. Emsella's six sessions over three weeks treat the floor, EMfemme 360's three sessions treat the tissue, and the doctor says whether one, the other or both fits. Pelvic floor exercises continue whatever you decide, and a leak that needs a diagnosis, with a prolapse or urgency, is referred first.
Who it suits
A woman with mild leaks who also has laxity or dryness and wants both addressed in one plan. No current infection, no unexplained bleeding, no metal coil, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and cervical screening up to date. The laxity page covers the tissue treatment, and the full guide the rest.
