GUIDE

Does EMfemme 360 work?

The honest answer is in two parts, and we give both before you spend anything. For discomfort, dryness and pain with intercourse after the menopause, the one published EMfemme 360 study is encouraging. In it, 35 postmenopausal women, all with severe pain on intercourse for three years or more, had three eight-minute sessions a month apart. Two months after the last, pain on intercourse was gone in 29 of them, the vaginal health score had risen from 7.7 to 18.7 on a 5 to 25 scale, and the mean satisfaction rating was 92.9%. For laxity after childbirth, which is the manufacturer's stated purpose for the device in the UK, no EMfemme 360 study has measured the result; the evidence there comes from other makers' radiofrequency devices. At EMfemme 360 London, 8 Devonshire Place, the doctor examines you first and tells you which of those two answers applies to you.

The study, plainly

  • Who: 35 postmenopausal women, average age 57, all with severe pain on intercourse for at least three years and no intercourse for at least a year. Published in 2022; the authors declared no conflict of interest, and the paper names no sponsor.
  • What: three sessions of EMfemme 360 inside the vaginal canal, eight minutes each, a month apart; no external treatment.
  • What changed, two months after the last session: pain on intercourse absent in 29 of 35 (83%). The vaginal health index, which scores elasticity, secretions, pH, the lining and moisture, rose from 7.7 to 18.7. Vaginal pH fell from 6.6 to 4.6, towards the healthy acidic range, and pain on examination from 6.6 to 1.4 out of 10.
  • What it did not measure: laxity, and sexual function on a formal scale. It had no comparison group, and the authors themselves call the group limited and two months too short to show how long the result lasts.

What the manufacturer and the regulators say

BTL describes EMfemme 360 as a radiofrequency treatment for vaginal health, used inside and outside, to improve vaginal laxity, labial laxity and sexual dysfunction. Its stated purpose for the UK is the treatment of sexual dysfunction after vaginal delivery by improving vaginal laxity. In the US, the applicator is FDA-cleared to heat tissue for the temporary relief of pain and muscle spasm and an increase in local circulation; no US clearance names any vaginal or intimate use. In 2018 the US regulator warned that it had cleared no energy-based device for menopause symptoms, incontinence or sexual function, and that such treatments can cause burns, scarring and pain. NICE, for its part, puts vaginal oestrogen first for vaginal and urinary symptoms of the menopause and supervised pelvic floor training first for stress and mixed leaks. We set all of that beside the study, and the full guide carries each source.

What the other devices show

Radiofrequency treatments of the vaginal canal from other manufacturers have been tested against sham (dummy) treatment: a 2026 analysis found laxity improved more with the real treatment than with a dummy one in three trials, and sexual function by a modest amount in two. A 2024 trial of 76 women found laxity better than sham at four, six and twelve months but sexual function no better. Those are different devices; they tell you the direction radiofrequency works in, not what EMfemme 360 measured.

Who it suits, in our clinical judgment

A woman with dryness, discomfort or pain with intercourse after the menopause who has tried or cannot use vaginal oestrogen, or who wants a treatment alongside it. It also suits a woman with laxity after childbirth who has done her pelvic floor training and wants more. Not a woman with leaks as her main problem, which is the Emsella chair's territory, and the EMfemme 360 or Emsella page explains. Our patients review the clinic on review.clinic, where the clinic holds 4.9 out of 5 from 49 reviews, with 100% saying the treatment was worth it (November 2026).
