EMfemme 360 for the labia and the outside

EMfemme 360 is used inside the vaginal canal and, if chosen, outside: the same radiofrequency warmth over the labia, the vaginal opening and the perineum (the skin between the vagina and the back passage), three to five minutes a zone, which the manufacturer describes as improving labial laxity. We offer it alongside the internal treatment, after a doctor's examination at EMfemme 360 London, 8 Devonshire Place, with the course in writing at a free consultation. One thing comes first: no EMfemme 360 study has measured the result on the labia, and the one published study treated the canal only.

What it is for

Labia that have lost firmness and tone after childbirth or with age, the skin of the perineum, and the outer tissue around the entrance. BTL's account is that the controlled heat stimulates collagen production and improves labial laxity; for the inside the study measured symptoms and examination scores, and for the outside no result has been measured. It does not reduce the size of the labia or change their shape, which is a surgical question, and the doctor says so where that is what someone wants.

What is known

• The manufacturer: describes EMfemme 360 as used both intravaginally and externally, for vaginal laxity, labial laxity and sexual dysfunction.
• The study: the one published EMfemme 360 study did not include a labial procedure, so there is no measured result for the outside.
• The clearances: in the US the applicator is cleared for heating tissue only; BTL's UK stated purpose is the internal use, laxity after vaginal delivery.

We offer the external treatment on the manufacturer's description and in our clinical judgment, and we say that at the consultation rather than on the day.

The session and after

The tip is moved slowly over the labia, the vaginal opening and the perineum, three to five minutes a zone as the manufacturer's clinical guide describes; most women describe warmth, and the practitioner turns the energy down if you ask. A female practitioner can deliver the treatment if you ask. The aftercare is the same as for the inside: no intercourse, tampons or baths for 24 to 48 hours in our practice. Who it suits
